Fireworks are a work of art and of great skill. It is a great pity when they are reduced to nothing but a dangerous pastime. This is mostly due to greed, lack of discipline and the most basic need of loving thy neighbour. As has been said many times before, having laws is not enough: laws are made to be abided by, and if they are not, then the authorities have the powers to enforce them and enforce them they must.

People must be safeguarded at all times and the police must be given full powers and full backing by the courts. Safe premises where fireworks are manufactured must be identified, with adequate space for people to work in to minimise danger to life and limb and property. Heavy punishment must be meted out if laws are breached.

Lovers of this most attractive art must have self discipline. Above all, it must be driven home that fireworks are safe until it is forgotten that they are dangerous.
