Insanity

Alan Zelt of Naxxar writes:

Happened to see that Lilu King just got bailed out a third time. No matter what he does, a magistrate always bails him out.

Lilu KingLilu King

In baseball, there is a saying: Three strikes and you are out. In Malta it means you keep getting bailed out.

In the judicial system, the definition of insanity is to keep repeating the same thing, and to expect a different result.

Ridiculous PN conditions

Eddy Privitera of Naxxar writes:

The conditions being imposed by the Nationalist Party’s electoral commission on both contestants in the race for the party leadership are not only draconian in the extreme but also unfair to both.

Any political party, which happens to be the sole opposition in parliament and which aspires to return to government, when choosing a new party and opposition leader will do everything possible to elect one who must be a very good political debater.

Debating ability, in my view, is the most important requisite of any political leader in order to influence and persuade the majority of voters to vote for that political leader’s party.

The PN’s electoral commission is doing the exact opposite. It has barred debates between Adrian Delia and Alex Borg. They are not even being allowed to refer to anything said by the other contestant when being interviewed.

During the time a due diligence on both contestants is taking place, Delia and Borg can be interviewed by media houses, as long as they first obtain approval from the party administration. Smacks of Vladimir Putin’s Russia.

But, once the due diligence is over and the official campaign starts, Delia and Borg can only appear on PN’s media. This will ensure that both will not have to face any tough or embarrassing questions.

Perhaps the most ridiculous, anti-democratic condition being imposed on them is that they are being banned from referring to anything said by the other contestant. How can PN members then be expected to arrive at an informed opinion?

Delia has immediately reacted, calling on the electoral commission to rethink and correct those restrictive conditions. His adversary has remained silent. Is it because he believes the original conditions are in his favour?

The same conditions have been roundly condemned by the independent media and the Institute of Maltese Journalists.

Unless the PN’s electoral commission drastically amends the published conditions, it would succeed in turning what could have been an interesting two-horse race, into a two-horse farce.

Thanks to wardens

Mark John Galea of Sliema writes:

I would like to express my gratitude to a very swift operation of LESA wardens in Sliema. On several occasions, I had to get parking permits for trucks because of different deliveries. The parking signs were never acknowledged and there were always cars in these reserved spots.

If it were not for the swift help of the wardens, we would not be able to complete the deliveries.

Thanks once again for a job well done.
