Missing signage

Charles Micallef of Qawra writes:

I recently visited a relative residing at St Vincent de Paul Long Term Care Facility and, though very impressed with the service given to the residents, I was less than impressed with the non-existent directional signage.

It took us some 35 minutes to finally get to Ward St Joseph 2. Our surprise was that even when asking the various security officers stationed there they either did not know or were unsure where the ward was, hence, we were sent from pillar to post.

May I respectfully suggest that much-needed and proper directional signage as well as an overall plan of the facility and large directional signs are installed in the facility?

The costs of war

Christopher John Linskill of Ħamrun writes:

We seem to be seeing militarism as the first aspect of the policies of Vladimir Putin, Donald Trump, and Benjamin Netanyahu and those of some other Middle Eastern countries.

All they seem to be doing at the moment is starting wars and making drastic expenditure on armies, air forces and navies.

Combined with the great loss of human lives and resources that this involves, there is less and less expenditure on the help and development of poor countries that might well reduce conflicts and the mass refugee movements from zones of conflict that we are seeing.

Nothing is more costly, in all senses, than war.

What can be achieved from the cost of a single military unit such as a tank or an air force fighter?

A contemporary M1 Abrams tank costs $4 million, not including export costs. A fighter costs much more.

Allocating just this sum to a peaceful purpose could mean building a school or a hospital in a poor African or Middle Eastern country.

If we are Christians, we must follow Jesus’s teachings and pray for peace.

We must do all we can to ease the human suffering caused by bombing and starvation.
