Two Libyan businessmen were yesterday fined for failing to declare a total of €45,050 upon their arrival in Malta from Tripoli, Libya, last Friday.

Bujaila Ramadan Ali Benshibban, 43, was carrying €40,700 and 31-year-old Abdulkrim Ramadan Ali Shaban, €4,350, when they were intercepted by the customs department.

Arraigned yesterday afternoon, they both pleaded guilty to the charges.

Mr Benshibban was fined €12,675 and Mr Shaban €3,587.50 by Magistrate Miriam Hayman.

The €45,050 they travelled with was also confiscated. Inspector Angelo Gafà from the Economic Crimes Unit prosecuted.
