Lies about Attard Montalto spread after his call for AG's resignation - Aquilina
Fondazione Falcone representative Robert Aquilina expresses solidarity
Dark forces have started spreading lies and rumours about the health of former Labour minister and MEP John Attard Montalto in an attempt to discredit him after he called for the resignation of the attorney general, Robert Aquilina said on Monday.
Attard Montalto wrote in The Sunday Times of Malta that Attorney General Victoria Buttigieg is incompetent and must resign, or the government must sack her. His argument centred on the Vitals court case and the application made by the AG's Office to the Swiss Federal Office of Justice, requesting information on the bank accounts of some of those charged. The Swiss termed the application “a fishing expedition”, which lacked details and time frames.
Attard Montalto said the application was an embarrassment and it will have ripples on Malta's legal and judicial system.
Aquilina, in a statement as Malta representative of the Fondazione Falcone said he wanted to express solidarity with Attard Montalto and his family.
"For speaking against Labour Party deception and for asking for the AG's resignation or removal, the tentacles of the mafia have started spreading lies and rumours about Dr Attard Montalto's work in a cowardly attempt to discredit him. That is how the mafia works," Aquilina said.
