Watch: Labour supporters see election victory as a ‘win for Malta’
Their advice to the PN? Learn from the mistakes you’re making
Labour supporters declared their election victory as a “win for Malta” as they cheered, chanted and honked horns outside Labour headquarters on Sunday.
Some supporters had been waiting outside Labour HQ since 8am, before votes even started being sorted in Naxxar, to show some early support.
Overall, they said they viewed the election not just as a victory for their party but a win for Malta.
One man said he voted for the Labour Party because it has shown itself to be credible over the years.
“The party ran the country well. If it hadn’t, I wouldn’t have voted for it. The other party needs to learn from the mistakes it is making,” he told Times of Malta.
Another man made sure to credit not just the Labour Party but Robert Abela for showing leadership.
An 18-year-old told Times of Malta that he appreciated how Robert Abela showed respect for young people in politics. "He had many good proposals, and I like how he speaks. He was always there for us youths and always showed us respect."
Another woman said she always found support from the Labour Party. "When I was renting and the landlord wanted to evict me, the government came in and covered the rent for me. Who else am I to vote for?
Quite a number of supporters declined to comment on camera, mostly because of their work. One woman said she is a business owner and had lost clients because of her political beliefs.
During those off-record conversations, one man praised Abela for keeping in close contact with people. He said Abela took an interest in people’s lives, and people felt it – including his wife, who comes from a Nationalist background.
