It seems that in spite of the efforts of many to keep the country clean, litter bugs still feel the urge to spoil the good work.

About 200 refrigerators, empty plastic containers and car spares were dumped illegally along Notabile Road, in Attard, not far away from Mount Carmel Hospital, on Tuesday night.

A spokesman for the Resources and Infrastructure Ministry said that within two hours from the dumping being reported workers from the ministry had cleared the area.

The spokesman said the material had been dumped just a few hours after the ministry concluded a campaign on the expenses incurred in clearing illegally dumped waste.

Since January, more than 11,200 tonnes of waste were collected from valleys and arterial roads at a cost of Lm400,000.
