9.45pm And with that news we bring to an end our blog. Thanks for staying with us and we will leave you with Lisa Marie Bezzina's emotional comments after her victory in the 5,000m race.

9.30pm After two hours of trepidation it has been finally confirmed that Lisa Marie Bezzina is the winner of the 5,000 metres race.

Track judges have finally issued their verdict and admitted that Bezzina had crossed the finish line first after completing the stipulated distance and that the race judges had committed a mistake when ordering her to make another lap.

Bezzina's triumph gives Team Malta their second gold medal of the Games and the first for the veteran runner in the Biennial Games.

7.30pm Huge news coming out from Athletics as Lisa Marie Bezzina's gold medal is now in doubt after rivals have lodged a protest saying that the race judges have misjudged the race...

In fact, when Bezzina crossed the line, the race judges rung the bell as a sign that the final lap was next with Bezzina being overtaken by an Icelandic athlete at the finish line.

However, Bezzina lamented that they ran an extra lap and that she should have won the race, with the race officials awarding her the win.

Yet, now the other athletes are protesting for race negligence...we just have to wait and see for the final result.
