Mr Justice C. Farrugia Sacco, presiding over the Tribunal for the Investigation of Injustices, has upheld a claim filed by Stephen Saliba.
Saliba claimed he had sustained an injustice in 1992 when he had not been given a promotion by Mid-Med Bank Ltd (which was then substituted by HSBC Bank Malta plc). He also claimed he had been transferred from one department to another without valid reason.
In its decision the tribunal concluded that it resulted that Saliba had indeed sustained an injustice as a result of the transfers he had endured. He had been transferred four times in a five-year period and was transferred to perform duties that were not in his particular line of work.
However, the tribunal concluded that Saliba's claim that he had unjustly been denied promotion was unjustified.
By way of remedy the tribunal recommended that Saliba be awarded Lm1,500 in compensation.
