Resources and Infrastructure Minister Francis Zammit Dimech yesterday toured restoration works on St Nicholas Curtain Wall in Cospicua, the major part of which was being carried out and financed by the Cottonera Rehabilitation Project and the Restoration Unit.

The restoration of St Nicholas Curtain Wall, which formed part of the Cottonera Lines, is estimated to cost about Lm80,000.

It includes work on the bastion walls on the inside of Polverista Gate as well as the repair and plastering of roofs.

Dr Zammit Dimech said that between 1994 and 2001 the Cottonera Rehabilitation Project spent over Lm1 million on restoration and rehabilitation projects in Cottonera.

The restoration of St Helen's Tunnel was also underway by the Resources and Infrastructure Ministry. One side of the tunnel is being cleared of the large quantity of construction waste thrown over the bastions.

The clean-up has already revealed parts of the fortifications.
