A young man ended up in court in Malta after a raging row with his girlfriend on a plane taking them from Britain to Mombasa in the early hours of this morning.
A court heard how Londoner Matthew Michael Evans, 24 had been on a Thomson Airways flight to Mombasa when he had a heated argument with his 24-year-old girlfriend.
She got so angry that she told other passengers that he was carrying drugs. The Captain decided to divert the plane to Malta to remove the couple. The plane is expected to leave Malta later today.
They were arrested by the Maltese police and 18 grams of cannabis resin was found in the man's luggage, Police Inspector Pierre Grech told the court.
Mr Evans pleaded guilty to being in simple possession of the drug and he was conditionally discharged for three years.
