Long traffic jams in various parts of Malta

Accident on Marsa-Ħamrun bypass compounds problem

Hundreds of motorists were stuck in long traffic jams in the central part of Malta on Monday morning.

Drivers reported being stuck for an hour in gridlock from Sliema, San Ġwann and Lija, heading towards Valletta. The area around the airport was also heavily congested, with the Mqabba bypass being closed.

There was also more traffic congestion than usual in Qormi - which is congested even in normal times.

Transport Malta reported an accident on the Marsa-Ħamrun bypass (direction south) and said the road was temporarily closed.

Motorists were urged to seek alternative routes.

In several areas, the situation came back to normal after 9am. /
