Valetta was yesterday besieged by fun lovers who turned the city into a noisy sea of colour. Carnival floats went through the capital city surrounded by people, mostly children, in various costumes. The hours-long parade was accompanied by loud party music, mostly mind-numbing techno.
While some people were enjoying themselves, for other Carnival proved to be a nuisance. A large part of Valletta was closed to traffic, making it impossible for many to get into the city.
Today Carnival will start with dancing and other related activities on Spinola Square in St Julian's. The dancing competition will start in the Freedom Square enclosure at 1.30 p.m. and at the same time a défilé will start from Castille Square, proceeding along Merchants Street, St John Street and Republic Street.
The activities continue tomorrow afternoon with a parade along Valletta's streets. Carnival will come to an end on Tuesday with a parade and grand finale along St Anne Street.
