Low-cost carrier Norwegian to begin Malta-Billund flights next June

Once-a-week flights will connect Malta to the home of Lego in western Denmark

A Scandinavian airline will begin flying from Malta to Billund in Denmark next June.

Billund Airport announced the route among nine others that low-cost carrier Norwegian will begin operating from the airport in 2026.

The flight will operate once a week. It will be the third direct connection between Malta and Denmark, joining flights between Malta and Danish capital Copenhagen operated by SAS and Norwegian.

Billund, in western Denmark and just over 250km west of Copenhagen, is famous as being the birthplace of Lego. It hosts the original Legoland amusement park.

Its airport currently enjoys limited overseas connectivity, after Ryanair shut down its base there, blaming a Danish aviation tax. Ryanair had operated a Malta-Billund route last winter.

Billund airport will however see its international connectivity boosted next year as apart from Malta, Norwegian will also begin flights from there to Barcelona, Bergamo, Chania, Edinburgh, Rome, Las Palmas, Naples, Nice and Porto.

Norwegian is Scandinavia's second-largest airline, and the fourth-largest low-cost carrier in Europe.
