Lucky escape for two drivers as large tree collapses on Attard road

The tree collapsed between two cars that were being driven past

Two motorists had a lucky escape on Tuesday afternoon when a large tree collapsed onto the street as they drove past.

The incident occurred in Triq San Anton, Attard, the street behind the presidential palace, shortly before 3pm.

The tree crashed down in front of a car, seconds after another car had driven by.

"This rotten tree fell suddenly, right in front of my son's car as he was driving. Why aren't these old, ancient trees checked for root rot? One second later, it could have caused him a serious injury or a fatality, apart from writing off the car," a relative of one of the drivers told Times of Malta.
