Luggage security

I would like to express my concerns over the security of luggage on our departure from Malta. On returning to the UK we discovered that several items had been stolen from our suitcases. This having been our second holiday in two years we found it shocking to discover the loss of several pounds worth of property.

I find it even harder to believe, considering what a friendly, honest and welcoming nation the Maltese appear to be. I trust this is a one-off, but would advise tourists to be extra vigilant with the security of their luggage in future. May I also point out I regard this as a security issue in today's terrorist climate - if it is that easy to remove items from locked luggage, surely it would be just as easy to put something in, such as drugs, guns or bombs!

Having said this we still love visiting Malta and have considered it as a suitable home for our impending retirement.

I trust your readers will understand my concerns and perhaps some good will come out of our misfortune.

I must state that there was not enough time for these items to be taken at Heathrow on our arrival as our cases came through very, very quickly.
