Hibs Medsea were not in action last weekend in the Peugeot League, allowing Luxol to go top of the provisional standings following a comfortable victory over St James Hospital in the opening match of the second round.
Depiro kept up the challenge with an overwhelming victory over SN Suns as Sliema Wanderers had the better of Kerygma in another match from the women's basketball league.
Luxol were streets ahead of their modest opponents who lifted their game after falling behind, only for Ruth Spiteri's girls to dominate the second session and lead 25-10 at half-time.
St James were unable to sustain the pressure though, and Luxol went on to win 68-30.
Depiro met little resistance from bottom-placed SN Suns.
For the winners, Joselle Cardona potted 23 points as Luxol cruised to a 98-21 victory.
The Wanderers continued to show progress after chalking up their second consecutive victory, this time at the expense of Kerygma.
Sliema led 25-14 at half-time. Kerygma looked better after the interval but their effort was not enough as Sliema held on for a 48-38 victory.
