Lydia Abela and Masterchef contenders cook up a storm at St Vincent de Paul

Around 140 senior citizens attend Ikla bi Mħabba event

Around 140 senior citizens were served food cooked by four MasterChef Malta contestants and Lydia Abela this week.

Timed to mark Valentine’s Day, the ‘Ikla bi Mħabba’ (Food with Love) event was organised at the St Vincent de Paul home for the elderly on the initiative of Abela, the wife of the Prime Minister.

Attendees were either residents of the home or came from other care homes for the event, which is now in its second edition.

MasterChef Malta participants Andrew Debattista, Leigh Spiteri Chircop, Francesco Sultana and Antoine Micallef worked with care home staff and Abela to prepare and serve the meal to residents.

Singers Glen Vella, Tiziana Calleja, Sarah Bonnici and Jasmine Abela entertained the guests.

Abela emphasised the importance of being appreciative of elderly members of society.

Events like these helped foster connection, she said.
