'Ma tagħmlu xejn ma' Tal-Ajkla': ever-hopeful Żaren launches campaign

Independent candidate will be running on third, sixth districts

The ever-hopeful Nazzareno Bonnici, better known as Żaren Tal-Ajkla has launched his general election campaign.

The 67-year-old Żejtuni first entered politics in 2003, when he contested the general election and garnered 20 votes. The following year - in 2004 - he got 183 votes in the MEP election.

In 2014 Bonnici told Times of Malta he hoped that the hundreds who turned up for his mass meetings, who still voted PL in 2013, would this time around give him a shot. That year, he got 1,208 votes on the first count, but in the following elections, his votes dipped.

In the last general election, in 2022, he garnered 158 first-count votes from the third district and 157 from the 13th district.

This time, he will be contesting the third and sixth districts.

In a video uploaded on social media on Thursday, which has since amassed thousands of views, the independent candidate climbs onto a chair, and wearing his trademark KING cap, he sings his Ajkla anthem to those present at a poolside restaurant in Marsascala.
