Softball competition, the latest Malta Association of Baseball and Softball (MABS) initiative, is steadily gaining popularity at the Marsa Sports Ground. Introductory training sessions and practising for the women-only sport has been underway since March with the number of participants always on the increase.
The sport is relatively new. Yet, Softball is easy to play and follow with its basics attributed mostly to the popular game of 'Rounders'.
The MABS has also already received international support in their quest to promote the game here as the International Softball Federation (www.internationalsoftball.com) will contribute with four sets of equipment needed.
In future, the association hopes to have Softball included in the SkolaSport programme. They also intend to introduce league competitions. The MABS is now urging those interested to visit their website at www.maltabaseball.org/softball and get the required information to give the sport a try.
The current Softball co-ordinators in Malta are Ryan Yada (9929-8989, ryada@maltanet.net) and Patrick Pace (7970-8951, mabs1@waldonet.net.mt).
