Contractor damages water main in Marsascala, cutting supply to homes
Households in the area have been left with either no or low water supply
A main water pipe was damaged during infrastructural works on the Marsascala promenade on Wednesday, leaving households with either no or low water supply.
A video of the incident shows Triq ix-Xatt soaked as water erupts from the damaged pipe. At one point, the water sprays into balconies opposite the promenade, and floods the road.
A Water Services Corporation spokesperson told Times of Malta the contractor carrying out works on the Marsascala front damaged the water supply main during works on Wednesday afternoon.
He said repairs are currently underway and the issue will be resolved soon.
The spokesperson said the damage is being assessed.
The contractor, hired by Infrastructure Malta, is currently carrying out works to regenerate the promenade, which is part of larger works to develop a new ferry terminal.
Questions have been sent to Infrastructure Malta.
The Marsascala front was flooded for different reasons just last month, when Triq ix-Xatt was damaged covered in debris and rubbish as a result of Storm Harry. The strong gusts smashed through the seaside restaurants and residents later pitched in to help clean the town's shoreline and help clear stomr-damanged businesses.
A total of 25 truckloads of waste and debris were collected from the seaside town by the cleaning and maintenance division following the two-day storm.
