Major repair works will be carried out in 17 roads in Buġibba and Qawra to ensure they are safe to residents, visitors and workers until they are rebuilt as part of the ongoing €700 million nationwide road upgrade programme.

Several of the agency’s contractors will start repairing the surface of these roads Monday, Infrastructure Malta said.

Works will continue until early the following week, except for Good Friday and the Easter weekend.

The roads include Triq Isourd, Triq Toni Bajada, Triq Ċensu Tanti, Triq iċ-Ċagħaq, Triq l-Ibħra, Triq il-Ġifen, Triq Sant’Antnin, Triq il-Ħalel, Triq iċ-Ċern, Triq is-Sajjieda, Triq J. Quintinus, Triq Annetto Caruana, Triq il-Port Ruman, Triq il-Maskli, Triq l-Imħar, Dawret il-Gżejjer and Triq ir-Ramel.

Pedestrian access to these roads and their residences and businesses will be open at all times.

However, parts of the roads will be closed to vehicles while works are in progress. Infrastructure Malta coordinated these works with the St Paul’s Bay council, which is putting up 'no parking' signs in all areas to be repaired.

Cars parked on these roads will be towed from Monday morning, in line with applicable regulations, so that the works can be carried out without delay, the authority said.

Roads in Buġibba, Qawra developed extensive road surface damage through the years.

The works are part of the agency’s ongoing €700 million seven-year nationwide roads upgrade. Ten of the first residential roads that are starting being upgraded in 2019 as part of this investment are in St Paul’s Bay.

Three of them, Triq it-Turisti, Triq il-Luzzu and Triq Għawdex, are already being rebuilt. The reconstruction of Triq San Pawl, one of the main roads of this locality, connecting Xemxija, St Paul’s Bay and Burmarrad, will start soon.
