I would like to thank Karl Farrugia (director of communications, Malta Labour Party (PL)) for informing us that Sharon Ellul Bonici has realised her mistake and is now pro-EU, with no affiliation to any group which is anti-EU.

I have always had a great deal of respect for politicians and the sacrifices they make when they present themselves for service to the people but, while I respect his opinion, I cannot agree with Mr Farrugia that the names on the PL list for the 2009 MEP elections are the best people to represent Malta and Gozo in the European Parliament. The people of these islands are intelligent enough to elect the best possible representatives.

I would also like to thank Willie Grech (Ms Ellul Bonici's campaign manager) for his information too. However, I do not remember seeing Ms Ellul Bonici's name on my ballot paper in 2004! (Perhaps he would like to explain why).

One last thing. Why did we not hear of these things before? Why wait for my short letter to hit so many chords?
