The first anniversary of EU enlargement by 10 new countries and the signing of the accession treaties with Bulgaria and Romania, due to join in 2007, was marked in Luxembourg by a cultural event called Magic Of A Night.
Organised by the Luxembourg presidency of the EU together with the European Commission and the embassies of the EU member states, the event, held on Sunday, presented a cross section of the cultures of the new member states. Malta was represented by the cultural artistic group Etnika and by Gozitan singer Miriam Christine Borg.
About 50 Maltese were present among the audience.
The celebration, held at the Abbaye of Neumunster, also included modern dancing, classical music, choirs, expositions, fashion shows, cinema, theatre and animated films.
