Malta today expressed concern about the recent developments in Egypt, which developments it continued to monitor closely.
In a statement, the Foreign Ministry said Malta stressed that violence was never a solution to any problem and the country offered its condolences to the families who lost relatives as a result of the violence.
"At this delicate moment in Egypt's transition to democracy, the rule of law and national stability, Malta calls on all parties in Egypt to exercise due restraint and to engage in a dialogue in the interest of ensuring a return to the democratic process and constitutional order.
"It is essential that the transition process resumes at the earliest possible and is completed to ensure that the democratic ideals and aspirations which inspired and motivated the 25 January Revolution in 2011 prevails.
"This process needs to be as inclusive as possible since it is ultimately the Egyptian people themselves who will determine their country's future," the ministry said.
