Milk prices rise for second time in a year
One-litre whole milk sees steepest increase, rising by 7c to €1.37
The price of milk has risen for the second time in a year, with a litre of milk up by seven cents.
Malta Dairy Products Ltd has raised the price of several Bennna dairy products, including milk, butter and cheese.
As of Wednesday, one litre of whole milk has increased from €1.30 to €1.37.
The company said it had increased prices due to "increasing costs across several areas of the supply chain.”
It added: “While Malta Dairy Products Ltd has worked to absorb these increases wherever possible, a limited revision in pricing is now required on selected product lines.”
The national dairy processor said the increase was linked to higher production and processing costs, as well as rising costs for ingredients, packaging materials, transport and distribution.
It said the changes reflected continued investment in quality, food safety and operational reliability, as well as ongoing support for a sustainable local dairy sector.
One-litre cartons of 2.5% milk have risen by 6c, from €1.26 to €1.32, while one-litre lactose-free 2.5% milk has also gone up by 6c, from €1.51 to €1.57.
Other products affected include 500ml cartons of whole milk, 2.5% milk and lactose-free 2.5% milk.
The company has also increased the price of ġbejna friska 120g, mozzarella fresh mini portions 150g, mozzarella fresh single portion 125g, salted butter 200g, unsalted butter 200g and lactose-free unsalted butter 200g.

The company had given a similar explanation when it raised the prices of several Benna milk products in January.
At the time, it said the increases were needed “to ensure the long-term sustainability and reliability of Malta’s fresh milk supply.”
The largest January increase was also on one-litre whole milk, which rose by 7c.
