An industrial tribunal in Geneva has ordered the Maltese embassy there to compensate two workers after they were dismissed, Foreign Minister Joe Borg said in reply to a parliamentary question.

He said the cases were filed in October 1996 and April 1998. In the former, the tribunal decided that the employee be given compensation of SF15,075 (some Lm4,100) and in the second, compensation was fixed at SF31,478.20 (some Lm8,562). The minister said a total of SF25,400 (about Lm6,908) had been paid so far but there were pending issues on the remainder.

He was replying to a parliamentary question by Labour MP Marie-Louise Coleiro.
