Playing only their second ever full international match on foreign soil, the national women's team, led by coaches Pierre Brincat and Alfred Zammit, lost 1-0 against Bosnia Herzegovina. The latter scored the winner 15 minutes from the end.

The gallant Maltese played their hearts out at the KSC Hrasnica Stadium in Sarajevo. They were unlucky not to emerge with a point against the home side who were also seeking their first win in the group.

A short MFA report said that the Maltese girls created various scoring chances and were denied a penalty early in the second half.

Skipper Dorianne Theuma, Catherine Camilleri and Rebecca D'Agostino stood out for Malta. The match was controlled by Turkey referee Ms Hilal Tuba Tosun.

Malta started their commitments in this qualifying campaign with a 3-0 away defeat to Romania last month. On Saturday they play another Group Five qualifier in Vrbovec against hosts Croatia.
