British Airways announced that its average load factor on the Malta/Gatwick route between April 2002 and January 2003 was 86 per cent. A spokesman for British Airways franchise carrier GB Airways described this result as an "excellent one when one considers the economic challenges facing the airline business".

James Stagno Navarra, general manager of British Airways in Malta, said that the demand and volume for bookings on the London-Malta route for summer 2003 was on the increase.

Mr Stagno Navarra said that to that effect GB Airways decided to put on more capacity on the route with another weekly flight, bringing the total flights to ten per week. The route is being operated with a modern fleet of A320/A321 aircraft.
