Malta heads to the polls on Saturday as voting stations to open for 15 hours
Electoral Commission issues final guidance for eligible voters
Malta goes to the polls on Saturday with polling stations across 13 districts opening for 15 hours.
The Electoral Commission said that registered voters can cast their votes any time between 7am and 10pm at the polling station shown on their voting documents.
Voters who are going abroad on polling day will be allowed to skip the queue on presentation of documented evidence of a confirmed travel booking to the police officer in charge at the polling centre.
For every voter who requires the assistance of the Assistant Electoral Commissioners to vote, ten voters who do not require assistance are allowed into the polling room.
In total 341,351 people collected their voting documents and are now eligible to vote on Saturday, with 15,481 documents left uncollected by Thursday’s midnight deadline.
The Electoral Commission warned that anyone who prevents a voter from exercising their right to vote in the elections would be guilty of an offence.
Mobile phones, cameras and photographic equipment cannot be used in polling stations, the commission added.
If a voter makes a mistake on their ballot, they can ask the assistant commissioners on site for a fresh ballot. Do not try to fix the mistake yourself.
There are 162 candidates split across six political parties vying for a seat in parliament. Two candidates are running as independents.
Voters will cast ballots in 852 boxes across Malta and Gozo. These will be sealed and transferred to the counting complex in Naxxar between Saturday and Sunday.
