Malta joins Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence
The partnership brings together 44 countries, bridging the gap between AI theory and real-world implementation
Malta’s application to join the Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence has been formally accepted, the government said on Friday.
GPAI is an international initiative bringing together 44 countries dedicated to the responsible, safe, secure and human-centric development of Artificial Intelligence, the government said in a statement.
Supported by the OECD Secretariat in Paris, GPAI brings together governments, academia, civil society and industry to bridge the gap between AI theory and real-world implementation.
According to Economy Minister Silvio Schembri, Malta’s membership in GPAI is an important step in the island's national digital strategy and a clear demonstration of Malta's commitment to responsible and forward-looking AI governance.
"Joining this global partnership allows Malta to contribute to shaping the future of AI while ensuring access to global expertise," he said.
"This milestone strengthens Malta’s position as a proactive and trusted participant in international digital policy, leading to a strengthened ecosystem for business and start-ups in AI and tangible benefits for citizens."
