Sydney-based Rugby League team Malta Knights yesterday played a friendly at the Marsa Ground against English Lionhearts, of the UK.
It was the first Rugby League international in Malta. The Knights won it 36-6.
Ryan Borg, Matthew Zammit, Luke Branidhan, Bradley Blews, Matthew Dux and Simon Micallef were the try scorers for the winners who had Ben Sammut hitting in six penalty goals.
The Malta Knights contingent arrived earlier this month. Besides playing against the English Lionhearts, they also attended various activities and intend to support the Malta Rugby Union team on Saturday in a World Cup qualifier against Germany at Corradino.
Malta Knights coaches will also hold a series of courses in the coming days with the aim to promote Rugby League rules on our shores.
