The Maltese and Kuwaiti governments yesterday signed an agreement in a drive to develop relations and co-operation between them in the fields of education, culture and science.

Education Minister Louis Galea said the two countries already enjoyed a good relationship and have worked together in the past.

The countries shared many common factors, including their geographical and strategic importance, offering opportunities of exchange to improve education and scientific research.

The Malta Council for the Arts, Science and Technology and the Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research would be collaborating on specific projects.

From the cultural point of view, the idea is to organise exchanges between museums, libraries, musicians and artists among others, while the agreement also calls for exchanges in the field of sports.

Dr Galea also invited to Malta a delegation from the Kuwait Chamber of Commerce to promote the island and invest in it.
