Malta needs a new direction built on hope and courage
A PN government promises stronger institutions, cleaner governance, sustainable development, and an innovation-driven economy, writes James Aaron Ellul
The message of hope being offered by the Nationalist Party (PN) is rooted in one simple idea: Malta can breathe again. Through the slogan ‘Nifs Ġdid’ (a fresh start), the party is presenting a vision where politics has once again become a force that serves the individual, the people, rather than pressuring them.
At a time when many citizens feel frustrated and disconnected from the decisions being taken around them, this message is resonating strongly with families, workers, youths and the elderly alike.
For many people, daily life has become increasingly difficult. The cost of living continues to rise, traffic congestion and overdevelopment are affecting communities across the country, and many citizens feel that economic growth is no longer translating into a better quality of life.
Malta has reached a point where people are no longer impressed by statistics alone. They want to feel secure, listened to and respected. In this climate, the PN is presenting hope not merely as a slogan but as a promise of balance, direction and national renewal.
Through its ‘Nifs Ġdid’ vision, the PN is proposing a Malta that places quality of life at the centre of policymaking. It is speaking about stronger institutions, cleaner governance, more sustainable development and an economy based on innovation and productivity rather than endless pressure on infrastructure and communities.
The PN is insisting that progress should not come at the expense of people’s well-being or the country’s identity.
One of the strongest examples of this people-centred approach is the proposal to remove succession tax on inherited family property.
This proposal directly addresses the realities faced by many Maltese and Gozitan families who, after years of sacrifice, are burdened with additional financial pressures when inheriting a family home.
At a time when property prices continue to rise sharply, the PN believes families should not be punished for wanting to preserve what previous generations worked hard to build. It is a proposal based on fairness, dignity and social justice.
Daily life has become increasingly difficult- James Aaron Ellul
The growing energy surrounding this vision has also been strengthened by younger voices within the PN, particularly Alex Borg. His popularity reflects the wider desire for political renewal and a style of politics that remains close to the people. Many citizens today are tired of arrogance, division and politics based solely on power. They want sincerity, competence and leadership that inspires confidence in the future once again.
At the same time, recent controversies continue to show why this change in mentality is urgently needed. Serious concerns were raised regarding the Pietà–Msida bridge project; the street closure of the area in front of the Our Lady of Sorrows chapel, in Pietà; the lack of consultation before local council elections; and decisions affecting Triq Sant’Anna and the Santa Venera tunnels project.
In Floriana, I personally experienced this frustration in relation to the controversy surrounding the Memorandum of Understanding regarding Il-Fosos. Important decisions affecting a historic national site were taken without proper consultation with councillors. Situations like these reinforce the growing perception that communities are too often informed after decisions have already been taken.
Ultimately, the hope being offered by the PN is the hope of renewal: a Malta that grows without losing its soul, a government that serves rather than dominates and a society where progress is measured not only in economic figures but in the well-being and dignity of its people.
The choice before us is clear. If we truly wish to see a different direction for our country, one founded on good governance, consultation, opportunity and a better quality of life, then I respectfully ask for your support.
Together, we can deliver the change that Malta deserves.
