Malta notched their first victory in the European Men's U-18 Promotion Cup yesterday, beating Gibraltar 66-40 in their second Group A match at the Ta' Qali pavilion.

The Maltese team were never in danger of losing yesterday after racing into a 22-9 lead by the end of the first quarter. The scores of the remaining three sessions were closer but Malta remained firmly in command to defeat Gibraltar by a significant 26-point margin.

The victory took Malta's tally to three points from two matches, the same as Wales who started their commitments with a narrow 47-45 win over the hosts on Monday.

Today, the Maltese boys, under the charge of Bruno Di Pietrantonio and Sandro Farrugia, take on unbeaten group leaders Andorra in their third and final Group A match at 8.45 p.m.

In Group B, Scotland are on maximum points after victories against San Marino (106-37) and Monaco (107-64).

Other results: Group A - Andorra vs Wales 98-48; Group B - Luxembourg vs San Marino 84-36.
