The main objective of the Nationalist Party remained the generation of wealth for the people, and the country was managing to overcome the challenges which the international financial earthquake had created, the Prime Minister said this afternoon.

He made his comments when he visited the PN’s Fruit and Veg fair.

Dr Gonzi said the budget had placed strong emphasis on the environment and several measures were based on the polluter pays principle.

At the same time, the agriculture sector was being assisted, both directly by the government, and by the European Union.

The last budget alone included a €13 million allocation for agriculture, Dr Gonzi pointed out.

This was the tenth edition of the fair, held, as usual, at Ta’Qali.
