Malta project featured in Europa Nostra book

President Guido de Marco was yesterday presented with Europa Nostra's prestigious book "The Power of Example", published on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the pan-European federation.

The presentation was made by the executive president of Din l-Art Helwa, Martin Scicluna, founder president Judge Maurice Caruana Curran and other council members.

"The Power of Example" is a compendium of the most important restoration and rehabilitation projects carried out in Europe since the foundation of Europa Nostra.

Din l-Art Helwa's prize-winning restoration project of the Msida bastion's Garden of Rest features on the publication's front cover.

Din l-Art Helwa had won the Europa Nostra silver medal in 2002 for the painstaking restoration project that took 10 years to complete.

The heritage NGO's communications officer, Simone Mizzi, said another honour for Din l-Art Helwa, that has been a member of Europa Nostra right from its early days in 1967, lies in the fact that the book carries a forward by Judge Caruana Curran.

Over 100 restoration projects of major heritage and environmental sites throughout Europe, including Malta's other major prize-winning achievement, that of the Ghadira bird sanctuary, are featured in the book.

The book will be on sale at a special introductory price of Lm15 and can be obtained from Din l-Art Helwa at 133 Melita Street Valletta.
