A 10 per cent increase in summer 2003 capacity for Malta has been projected by "the big operators", the Malta Tourist Office's UK and Ireland director, John Montague, was quoted as saying in the September issue of the Travel Trade Gazette, which features Malta.
Consumer advertising has helped Malta outperform the package holiday market in summer and fuel good bookings for winter, the travel magazine said.
Malta was one of the few countries to run TV advertising in 2002 and offered early-booking discounts on add-ons such as car rentals.
Malta suffered a five per cent dip in visitors after September 11, with 220,000 UK arrivals up to the end of July.
ACNielsen figures have also shown winter bookings are outperforming previous years by around 20 per cent.
Mr Montague was also quoted as saying that the advertising campaign encouraged more early sales to a destination that is traditionally based on late booking.
