Malta records one of EU's lowest inflation rates
Annual inflation eases to 2% in June, below both the euro area and EU averages
Malta’s annual inflation rate eased to 2 per cent in June, reaching its lowest level since February 2025 and remaining below the euro area average, according to figures published by Eurostat on Friday.
The rate fell from 2.1 per cent in May and 2.5 per cent in June 2025, leaving Malta below the euro area average of 2.8 per cent and the EU average of 2.9 per cent in June.
Malta was among the EU countries with the lowest inflation rates, with only Sweden, Czechia and Denmark recording lower annual rates.
Across the euro area, annual inflation fell from 3.2% in May to 2.8% in June. A year earlier, the rate stood at 2%.
Data released by the National Statistics Office show the biggest price increases in June in Malta were recorded in recreation, sport and culture (3.4%) and education services (3.2%), while prices continued to fall for clothing and footwear (-3.9%) and information and communication (-1.6%).
Restaurants and accommodation made the biggest contribution to June's inflation, followed by food and transport, largely because of higher prices for restaurant services, meat and air travel.
By contrast, lower prices for clothing and mobile phone services helped ease overall inflation.
