The 2014 EU Justice Scoreboard has again put Malta at the bottom in the time it takes for court cases to be decided.

The scoreboard also shows that Malta has the smallest number of judges participating in continuous training in EU law or in the law of another member state (as a percentage of the total number of judges).

However Malta is in the middle of the pack with regard to perceived judicial independence.

In a statement, the Parliamentary Secretariat for Justice said the scoreboard, based on 2012 figures, further underlined the need for justice reform.

The reforms needed to be done urgently so that the country could be competitive even in this sector.
