The Malta Syracuse annual race gets underway today at 9 a.m. with the starting line set between the Royal Malta Yacht Club and the Valletta bastions on the other side of Marsamxett harbour.

A total of 35 boats have entered the race with the main attraction being the Italian 80-footer Maxi-One, chartered especially for this event.

The club will place a buoy just off the Dragonara Casino and boats will first make their way round this marker before sailing towards Syracuse. The prize-giving ceremony will be held in Syracuse tomorrow evening at the Lega Navale di Siracusa base.
