Malta has taken part in the Moscow International Travel and Tourism Exhibition (MITT) held at the Moscow ExpoCenter.
Malta was represented by an official stand set up by the Malta Tourism Authority representative in Moscow, Anthony Caruana.
Malta’s ambassador in Moscow, Carmel Inguanez, visited the stand and met the MTA chief executive Josef Formosa Gauci, who attended the official opening.
Mr Formosa Gauci also had several meetings with the tourist industry stakeholders.
MITT is the largest and best known travel industry event in Russia and is ranked one of the top five travel exhibitions in the world. The exhibition features more than 100 countries and regions.
Mr Inguanez praised the MTA for raising Malta’s profile in such lucrative Russian travel market.
He also praised the efforts and work of the Russian travel companies which sought to promote Malta as a holiday destination.
He informed travel agencies that a new Visa Code was to be published on April 5 and stated that Malta’s consulate would be giving more special attention to visa applications from Russian nationals, particularly with reference to the best practice adopted by other Schengen states in implementing the Visa Handbook with regard to multiple entry visas.
Ambassador Inguanez remarked that with this added effort, Malta would be able to entice more Russian tourists to come to Malta.
