Euroskills 2008 is a three-day craftsmanship competition being held in Rotterdam, The Netherlands, between September 18 and 20, for young craftsmen and women from 20 European countries including Malta.

Participants involved in a wide range of trades, including florists, brick layers, bar tenders, car mechanic, and carpenters, may compete either as individuals or within teams of persons from the same or different trades. With competitions in over 50 areas of expertise, there is a chance for everyone to demonstrate their skills.

During the contest there will also be interactive events organised for visitors and special demonstrations related to the competitions as a showcase of the trades and vocational training opportunities available.

The organisers also hope that the event will show how craftsmanship helps to maintain Europe's competitive edge in the world. The contest winners will go on to compete in the World Skills competition, which is held every two years.

Education and training have a central role in responding to the competitive challenges Europe is facing and Euroskills 2008 is supported, both politically and financially, by the European Commission and national governments. The Commission sees skills competitions as a promising method of developing and highlighting excellence in skills, since the element of competition motivates students to perform to their maximum level.
