Malta's under 21 boosted their confidence ahead of their final Euro Championship qualifier when they registered a 4-1 win against Liechtenstein at the Hibernians Stadium.

The game had barely started when Scicluna pounced on a loose ball just outside Liechtenstein's box following indecision between Olcay Gur and Valentin Ospelt to unleash a fierce drive into the low corner after just two minutes.

Scicluna's goal set the tone for the match as the Maltese ran with far greater confidence than any of their opponents from the first whistle and Matthew Gauci's cross-cum-shot from the left flank found no takers as his effort crossed the face of goal before being cleared by Mathias Sele in the 17th minute.

Two minutes later, Camenzuli marked his international debut with an astonishing goal. The Birkirkara winger switched flanks with Scicluna as he moved with the ball towards the right touchline, swiveled around his marker to send an exquisite left-footed lob into the net.

In the 44th minute, Mark Scerri dragged his effort just wide with only Dario Caluori to beat after being played in following a spectacular quick exchange between Scicluna and Rowen Muscat.

Farrugia effected a triple substitution as Fernando Apap, Jurgen Pisani replaced Daniel Balzan and came on for Luca Martinelli, Steve Sultana and Gauci respectively.

Despite the 'wholesale changes', things got even better inside the opening two minutes as the boys in red scored their third goal.

Camenzuli swung in a pinpoint free-kick from the right flank and Yessous Camilleri took advantage of acres of space afforded him by the Liechtenstein to head past Calluori from close range.

On the hour mark, Vella's swerving free-kick hit the side-netting rather than the back one as Malta remained on top.

Such was Malta' superiority that Balzan made his first intervention in the 70th minute when Thomas Eggenbergers's cross created some drama on the Maltese goal but the goalkeeper fisted away the danger.

There was no let-up from Malta as they made it 4-0 in the 75th minute.

Scerri slid a perfect through ball into the path of substitute Darren Falzon as the striker sneaked ahead of his marker to chip the ball over the onrushing goalkeeper.

Three minutes later, Liechtenstein finally had something to smile about when Christoph Duelli's angled effort sailed over Balzan to pull one back for the visitors.
