Malta's national women's team made history yesterday after clinching a deserved bronze medal by beating Armenia in the play-off for third place in the FIBA Promotion Cup which was played in Andorra.

Malta 69
(17-14, 18-16, 26-14, 8-17)
Armenia 61

With Lucienne Bezzina and Irene Farrugia in impeccable form, they potted 25 and 20 points respectively, Malta cruised past their opponents and it was only in the last quarter that they somewhat suffered due to the Armenians' bold bid to save the match.

Yesterday's win was the fourth from five matches in Andorra for the GSSE 2003 gold medallists, coached by Italian Santino Coppa and Carlo Farrugia.
