Malta-Milan flights cancelled; Bologna, Rome trips delayed amid Italy strike

ITA Airways has had to cancel over a quarter of its flights on Friday

A flight from Malta to Milan has been cancelled amid a strike that has reportedly caused chaos at Linate and Malpensa airports.

The ITA Airways/KM Malta flight was due to leave for Linate at 12.45pm.

The return flight - expected at 5.35pm - has also been cancelled.

Another flight - this time a Ryanair one headed to Bologna - has been delayed: from 1.25pm to 4.45pm.

A WizzAir flight to Rome, scheduled for 2.20pm has been delayed, as has a 3.55pm Ryanair flight to Milan-Malpensa.

There is no indication yet of when these two flights will be taking off.

According to Italian media, the national strike has been called by the Uiltrasporti, Ugl-Ta, Astra, and Fast-Confsal-Av unions, and should last from 1pm to 5pm.

It involves ENAV employees, responsible for air traffic control, and Techno Sky staff, who ensure the efficiency of navigation systems. They are calling for protection, saying inflationary recovery is insufficient while the workload keeps increasing.

ITA Airways said it has been forced to cancel over a quarter of its flights scheduled for Friday.
