Maltapost to issue occasion card

To commemorate the 60th anniversary of Operation Pedestal, and the arrival of the Ohio and other vessels, otherwise known as the Santa Marija Convoy, Maltapost will be issuing an occasion card on Wednesday.

The occasion card will be numbered, and limited to 10,000. The card shows a monochrome photograph of the Ohio entering Grand Harbour, and is being issued to coincide with this year's celebrations of those momentous events.

A great interest has already been shown in this occasion card, particularly by the numerous ex-servicemen both in Malta and overseas, who had either served on one of the ships in the convoy, or in one of the services during the Second World War.

The stamp chosen for reproduction on this occasion card is one from the World War II Commemorations set designed by artist Harry Borg and originally issued on April 15, 1992.

For this occasion the occasion card and imprinted stamp will be on sale at 75c each at all branch post offices in Malta and Gozo.
