Malta`s provisional contribution to the victims of the Haiti earthquake totals €140,000, composed of a direct financial allocation by the Government of Malta and donations made in kind coordinated by the Civil Protection Department, Foreign Minister Tonio Borg said at meeting of the EU Foreign Affairs Council.

The council discussed the implementation of the Lisbon Treaty, coordination of EU aid to Haiti, a European training mission of Somali security forces in Uganda and the adoption of an EU common approach to the situation in Afghanistan.

Dr Borg was accompanied by Malta`s Permanent Representative to the European Union, Ambassador Richard Cachia Caruana.
