Even though far away from central Europe, the Maltese islands had also experienced the socio-technical transformations that were brought about by the industrial revolution. Some novelties of that revolution were realised here, among them the 100-ton gun at Fort Rinella as well as the light house and semaphore tower at Ta' Gurdan.
The study of industrial heritage is now 50 years old, although locally this aspect of heritage has been largely neglected. To introduce this fascinating sphere to the public, Fondazzjoni Wirt Artna will be holding a lecture today at 6 p.m. at the Gallerija Couvre Porte, Couvre Porte, in Vittoriosa.
The lecture will be given by JosephMagro Conti, an archaeologist and planner who is well known for the simple but effective way of making such public talks a joy to listen to, even if one's knowledge of the subject is elementary. Mr Magro Conti sits on the FWA board of trustees.
The lecture, conducted in English, will be illustrated and entrance is free.
