Maltese among organisers of half-marathon in Israel

Seven Maltese are assisting in the organisation of a half-marathon on Saturday at Ein-Gedi near the Dead Sea in Israel.

The Malta Labour Party said yesterday that the local participation in the event followed an initiative by its international department, which was involved from the beginning in the organisation of the half-marathon.

MLP international secretary Joe Mifsud is one of the seven organisers. Through the co-operation of the Malta-based Euro-Mediterranean Movement and the Tamar Regional Council of the Dead Sea, an application was made to the European Union for a seminar "Peace through sports" to be held at the same time as the half-marathon.

The organisers include Israelis, Palestinians with Israeli citizenship, Palestinians, Jordanians, Turks, Italians and Poles.

A Malta stand is to be put up by the Maltese organisers on the eve of the half-marathon.
